Law Student Gives Thanks for Seton Hall Education

By Romie Michel ’20

Romie MichelOn behalf of all Seton Hall Law scholarship and fellowship recipients, I extend our sincerest gratitude for your support and generosity. Every one of us walks through the revolving doors, and with each passing day, our hunger for knowledge and success grows. Your valued contributions relieve part of our financial burdens, while each of us pursues his or her goals and studies at full force.

You have displayed incredible integrity, loyalty and engagement for thinking of us. We thank you for investing in us, your profession and Seton Hall Law. I am fortunate to be the recipient of three scholarships and would like to express my sincerest gratitude to the family, friends and colleagues who established the Edward D. Benattar Trial Advocacy Scholarship, the Professor Michael Ambrosio and Janice Gordon Endowed Scholarship and the Karol Corbin Walker Leo Endowed Scholarship. Your generosity not only helps to support my studies but inspires me to work harder to attain my goals and dreams.

I decided to attend law school because of my aspiration to serve in the U.S. Congress. One of the most significant obstacles standing in my way was the financial burden of attending law school. My parents immigrated to the United States from Haiti as adults and did not have the opportunity to attend college. However, they instilled in me and my sister the value of an education and the importance of hard work and discipline. Money, though, was always a limited resource. Thanks to your support and vision, this obstacle no longer towers over me.

At each checkpoint in my journey toward success, I have learned valuable skills that will help me uphold the Seton Hall Law legacy. As a panelist at orientation last summer, I shared the importance of presenting your best self, as you never know who is looking for you. I became a student mentor because of the importance in uplifting others while providing guidance. I learned the significance of building and maintaining relationships last summer during my judicial externship. While at Keefe Law this year, I learned the importance of passionately advocating for your clients. At every stop on my journey, I will continuously thank those who invested in my success. I thank you again.

Our stories are all unique, but our gratitude remains constant. Your donations matter to all of us and together we say, thank you today, tomorrow and in the future.
